Rellyona is one of the Magistus — the legendary spellcasters who stopped the Great Cataclysm roughly 150 years ago — and the founder of Pentamarone, the one city inside Endymion Empire borders that the Empire does not rule.

She is dead.

(Name recorded as heard at the table in Session 10; spelling unconfirmed.)

What Is Known

  • She founded Pentamarone, and the city’s independence from the Empire is generally traced back to her.
  • She was a great sorceress and a great witch, per Genni of the WitchCrafters — the guild she left behind in her city.
  • She is no longer alive, confirmed in Session 10. This closes off the party’s hope that the surviving Magistus might be found here; Emperor Endymion remains the only Magistus known to live.
  • Rumor: she and the Emperor “went way back.” A trader at the Pentamarone docks reported that the two made a truce before she died, and that the Emperor has honored it ever since — one of three competing explanations for why the Empire tolerates the city (see Pentamarone). (Session 12: Madame Verre’s own version, relayed by Genni, is a variant of this one — see below.)

If the truce rumor is true, it complicates the standing theory that the Magistus fell out with one another after the Cataclysm. They may have parted on terms.

Session 11 — Her Successor (September 9, 2026)

Madame Verre inherited the WitchCrafters, and the city, directly from her.

“Once it was handed down to me from Madame Rellyona, I’ve been running it very efficiently, I’d say.”

This is the first hard link between the founding Magistus and the woman who runs Pentamarone now — and it lands awkwardly, because Verre has appeared to be a small child for as long as anyone in her own guild can remember. If she took over from Rellyona personally, she is very old, or something stranger.

A second Rellyona connection surfaced the same night. Asked about the White Forest coven, the guild’s masters recalled a witch in a town near the forest who “sometimes worked with Rellyona, if I remember correctly.” That witch is Morgana — whom a Freedale refugee, one session earlier, remembered working with Madame Verre.

Both accounts passed an insight check. Either Morgana collaborated with both women across the years, or the line between Rellyona and Verre is thinner than the guild believes.

Session 12 — The Truce, and a Sealed Rift (September 23, 2026)

The Truce, Per Verre

Asked by Aren what deal keeps the Empire off Pentamarone, Genni gave Madame Verre’s account — which Genni takes on trust, “because I trust her a lot”:

  • Rellyona and the Emperor went their separate ways after stopping the Great Cataclysm, but kept a deep mutual respect.
  • The Emperor has never encroached on the city, to honor her legacy.

This fits the dockside truce rumor, and softens the “falling-out” theory: by Verre’s account the two Magistus parted, but not as enemies. Aren was unconvinced it will last: “You never know what’s in the hearts of men.”

The Magistus Sealed the Rift

At the fireworks festival Verre let slip that the Great Cataclysm was a portal to another world, and that “the Magistus did what they had to do to seal the rift” — then: “Ooh. I don’t think I was supposed to say that.” Rellyona, as one of the Magistus, was presumably party to it. (Verre didn’t name individuals.)

Was Verre Her Disciple? (Speculation)

Aren suspects Verre knows what she knows about the Cataclysm because she was a disciple of one of the Magistus — most likely Rellyona. Not confirmed; it would fit Verre inheriting the guild and city from her personally.

The Biography

Asha found The Biography of Rellyona at a market bookstall in Pentamarone and bought it, along with a history of the Greater Endymion Empire, for 15 silver.

Asha read it on the third night in Pentamarone (Session 11) — delivered privately by the DM, and not yet shared with the rest of the party. It remains the only sustained written source on any Magistus other than the Emperor.

  • Magistus — her order
  • Pentamarone — the city she founded
  • WitchCrafters — the guild that grew there
  • Endymion Empire · Emperor Endymion — a fellow Magistus, and possibly an old friend
  • Great Cataclysm — what she helped stop
  • Madame Verre — her successor as head of the guild and the city, and possibly her disciple (Aren’s theory)
  • Morgana — a witch who, per the WitchCrafters, worked with her

First Appeared

Session 10 (August 26, 2026) — named for the first time off the spine of her own biography in a Pentamarone market stall, and confirmed dead the next morning by Genni.
