The Fallen is the name the party finally settled on for their adventuring group, decided at the close of Session 6.

They were recruited by the S.A.T.O. to serve as the group’s outside adventuring arm — the agents who can move and act where the students embedded inside the Academy cannot.

Members

Animal Companions

  • Bama — Red’s raven familiar (bound Session 7)
  • Howl — Leif’s owl (his Pact of the Chain familiar)
  • Astra — Asha’s hawk familiar

Current Goal

Take the Golden Chalice to the White Forest — away from the Academy and toward answers about the fourth magic and the forbidden research that cost Asha her standing.

As of Session 10: the teleport missed. Archibald’s circle put the party not at the Nephthys temple but at a crossroads in Endymion Empire woodland, hours north of Pentamarone — which they then walked into, and where they remain. Roughly 15 days remain before the Arcane Reclamation Initiative can seize the chalice.

At the end of Session 10 they were paralyzed in the courtyard of the WitchCrafters guild hall, facing Madame Verre, after discovering what the Golden Chalice does by drinking from it — and detonating a conjured horse in the guild library. (Superseded: see As of Session 12 below.)

The White Forest is no longer only a destination. Using the tower’s scrying pool, Asha found her missing mother alive and bound to a tree inside it, beside a second captive — so the party is walking toward a rescue.

What the Tower Gave Them

  • Guardian Command Amulet (worn by Asha) — commands the tower’s shield guardian, and proves how the constructs posted across the Academy work
  • Teleportation circle runes for the tower roof, and a scrying pool usable once a day
  • Spell components up to 500 gp, three 3rd-level spell scrolls, unidentified potions, and a lightning-resistant cloak
  • Morgana’s papers — and the names Yssa, Verelda, and Dia

What Pentamarone Gave Them (Session 10)

  • The Golden Chalice’s function — drink from it and it conjures what you think of. Living copies are inert; objects may be real (they now hold a second chalice). Everyone who drank “feels a little weird.”
  • The nondetection is the chalice’s own and cannot be dispelled — per Genni of the WitchCrafters
  • Four Sinful Spoils named by Tobin — spear, book, chalice, dress — and the Academy believes the Seeker already has one
  • Rellyona — a name and a death for the Magistus who founded Pentamarone; Asha carries her unread biography (read by Session 11, contents not yet shared)
  • An Alchemy Jug (Red), a Clockwork Amulet (Úlfr), glassware, two histories, a dagger, and a bear-skin cloak nobody has picked up (Úlfr collected it in Session 11: Bear Cloak)

Immediately ahead (as of Session 10): whatever Madame Verre wants. Behind that, still unresolved: Drolta’s homecoming at the vampire-sacked Nephthys temple, and the rescue in the White Forest.

As of Session 12 (September 23, 2026)

See Session 12 Recap — Something from Nothing.

  • The chalice is back in their hands. Madame Verre heard the WitchCrafters’ report and declined to use it. She honored the contract and returned it, and she still won’t say what she wanted it for. The party’s own ruling: no one drinks from it except in extreme emergencies, because repeated use breeds grandeur, superiority, and impulses that aren’t the drinker’s own.
  • What they now know about it: indestructible, all schools of magic at once, undispellable, and it makes something from nothing, which is why the guild calls it sinful against Venus. Its nondetection covers whoever holds it, so the Academy can’t scry the carrier.
  • The repossession clock is about 10 days.
  • New ties: an open offer of supplies for the White Forest from the WitchCrafters, a standing invitation from Verre to come back later, and a contact in The Sundered Watch, anti-Empire resistance fighters on Aleister the Invoker’s trail.
  • New questions out to the S.A.T.O.: see Session 12 Assignments.
  • Next destination is undecided: the Nephthys temple (the original plan, still unvisited) or straight to the White Forest for Asha’s mother. Verre expects them to go to the forest “by way of a temple or two.”
