A sentient magic greataxe found resting on the anvil in the forge room of the Lost Library of Leith Chantos. It is a double-bladed axe with arrowhead-shaped blades and a leather-loop haft. Its given name is “Leith Chantos’s Legacy,” though Úlfr intends to rename it.
Properties
- +1 greataxe (double-bladed, arrowhead blades, leather loop haft).
- Sentient — possesses Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores.
- Communicates by emotion, not words — it transmits feelings to its wielder rather than speaking. (Drolta confirmed it is a different entity from the creature in The Orb, despite both communicating through emotion.)
- Good-aligned.
- Special purpose: to protect the family of its bearer — “family” explicitly includes chosen and found family.
History
Forged by Leith Chantos himself and left on the forge anvil in his final library. It had not been touched since Leith, centuries ago, and it does not know where he is.
Note: this is NOT the famous double-headed axe from the fresco that Leith forged to stop the warlord — it is a separate creation of his.
Current Status
Claimed by Úlfr in Session 6 (May 31, 2026). Asha detected its enchantment magic via a ritual Detect Magic in the forge; it was later fully identified once Asha learned the Identify spell.
As of Session 8 (July 22, 2026), Úlfr has begun wielding it in combat — swinging it during the bandit ambush on the road north (and using it to smash into Morgana’s tower) — a step toward retiring his old greataxe Last Word. He still means to give the sentient axe a new name.
