A spoiler-free, party-facing summary of Úlfr, maintained for the wiki. (Úlfr’s
private backstory notes are kept out of the published site.)

Úlfr Kveld — “the evening wolf,” the wolf of twilight — is a Goliath
barbarian with the heart of a poet and a voice as pure as gold. He is learning
that words can be as powerful a weapon as his axe: in battle he hurls damaging
verses at his enemies, or lifts his allies with encouraging ones and tales of
their glory. Think a Nordic Bruce Banner — noble of soul, but with a quick temper
and an appearance that unsettles those who don’t know him.

Origins & Name

Úlfr was found as an infant at the edge of a village near the War Rock Mountains —
a huge, grey-skinned baby taken in by a local family. Kveld was the family name
of his adopted mother, a renowned poet; Wolf was a childhood nickname that stuck
until few remembered whatever his birth parents had called him. His true name, and
where he came from, are a mystery even to him. He carries his past quietly and is
guarded about his origins.

Persona

A collector of stories more than a teller of his own. As he once corrected a
companion: “Not my stories. These are the stories I collect, sir.” He is drawn to
the poetry and verses his adopted mother tried to teach him, and by night carves
runes and kenning-verses (see Kennings) into a quarterstaff he is slowly shaping
into a bardic focus. His relationship with his own rage is central to who he is — he
is reluctant to let it flow uncontrolled.

Objects & Weapons

  • Last Word — Úlfr’s greataxe, named for “the argument that ends all arguments.”
He has never explained the name.
  • Quarterstaff / Nithing Pole — a carved wooden staff he is transforming into
a níðstöng, carving runes and kennings into it each night; intended to become his
    bardic spellcasting focus.
  • A worn notebook of verse — filled with poetry, which he has learned to channel
into a supernatural ability to undermine his enemies.
  • Leith Chantos’s Legacy — the sentient +1 greataxe he claimed in Leith’s
forge (Session 6); it communicates through emotion and is sworn to protect the
family of its bearer. Úlfr still wields Last Word until he trusts the new blade.
