A historical orc figure, originally named Naf, who lived approximately 500 years ago. His story is the subject of Myrna Nor’s Lorehold thesis.

History

Naf was an orc wizard living in a kingdom established under the War Rock Mountains, led by an orc priest named Wound with a figurehead ruler named Uruth. Unhappy with the warmongering direction of the kingdom, Naf fled to Artmegía and settled in a small village with his wife and children, farming and studying arcane magic.

Eventually, Naf felt guilty for abandoning his people. He had skilled crafters forge a sentient axe capable of communicating with its wielder, hoping to use it to reconcile differences with the kingdom’s rulers. He returned to the War Rock Mountains, leading to a years-long power struggle between himself, Uruth, and Wound.

When communications from his family ceased, Naf fled home to find his family had been poisoned — killed by a poison only Wound knew how to brew. Wound had sent spies to identify and murder them.

Devastated, Naf donned black robes of mourning, forsook his birth name, and became known as Leith Chantos.

After the Tragedy

Leith Chantos abandoned the power struggle and spent years researching poisons and their antidotes, compiling them into a book called the Nath Loom — a spellbook containing hundreds of poisons and their antidotes.

He traveled around Astrodia building libraries, and within these libraries, he buried his murdered family members. He built a final library, after which he departed to parts unknown.

Legacy

  • Well-known historical figure — considered somewhere between a criminal and a vigilante
  • Úlfr recognized the name as connected to the War Rock Mountains
  • Aren recalled him as an infamous figure who killed people
  • Myrna Nor advocates that he was misunderstood and trying to protect his family

The Lost Library

Myrna believes the final library is located about 4 days northeast of The Academy of Arcane Arts, in the mountains. The party was hired to explore it and recover the Nath Loom.

Session 6 Findings

The party — now The Fallen — finished exploring Leith’s final library and uncovered much of his personal history:

  • Personal journal — recovered from his black-on-black bedchamber, telling his life story in his own words. The party gave it to Myrna Nor, completely vindicating her thesis.
  • Sentient axe — Leith Chantos’s Legacy, a good-aligned +1 greataxe sworn to protect the family of its bearer, was found resting on the anvil in his forge. It had not been touched since Leith himself and does not know where he is. Úlfr claimed it. (This is one of his magical creations — not the famous double-headed axe from the fresco that he forged to stop the warlord.)
  • Una’s grave — his wife’s headstone lay beyond the spider pit, reading in Orcish, “Una, beloved wife.” A platinum ring rested on it; the party left it untouched (Úlfr left a platinum ring there in respect).
  • Black robes of mourning — his garments for his dead wife were found in the bedchamber and kept by Leif.

His fate remains unknown. After building this final library and burying Una, Leith departed for parts unknown. There is no consensus on what became of him — whether he vanished into the ether, ascended, or is still wandering Astrodia.
