She Who Fell Before the First Fall is the pseudonym of a being — in most tellings a female angel — whom a fringe sect of the Solemn Pantheon’s faithful believe was exiled from the Sanctuary in the Sky before the war with the Dark Lords, and whose exile spurred the Morning Star to rebel. Nobody knows her name, what she did, or whether she existed at all. The party wonders whether she is The Seeker of the Sinful Spoils.

The Sect’s Belief

As explained by the priest of the Temple of Venus in Pentamarone (Session 12):

  • A sect within the church holds that a being was exiled from the Sanctuary in the Sky before the rebellion, and that this exile is what caused the Morning Star’s rebellion — the cause of which scripture otherwise leaves disputed.
  • Members of the sect slip that belief into artworks, representing her as a small flaming meteor.
  • The Morning Star’s fall was the first fall; hers came before it — hence the name.

The priest does not personally believe it. The temple library holds no books on her — “It’s a bit of a fringe theory.”

Aren’s Prior Knowledge

Aren had heard of her before. One or two believers turn up in many of the churches she’s visited; it’s a fringe belief with a quiet following. In their version she was an angel, a woman, who did something that angered the gods so much she was exiled to earth, and the Morning Star’s rebellion came in response. What she did and what became of her are unknown.

The Mural’s Meteor

The Temple of Venus’s basement mural (above) shows the Solemn and his host against the Morning Star and his armies at the moment the rebels were cast down. Drolta sensed that something in it didn’t belong, and Red found it: a small flaming meteor falling in the middle of the scene, clearly a deliberate addition. Asha dated the mural to a couple of centuries old, brought from the South, unsigned.

Asked through Drolta’s communion, Nephthys said the battle “was even before my time,” and that “there are still many mysteries about it that the higher beings are not aware of.”

Party Theory — Is She the Seeker?

(Speculation, not established.) Someone at the table asked aloud what everyone was thinking: what if she’s the Seeker of the Sinful Spoils? A fallen woman who makes things that mock the gods — and the Golden Chalice, the one Spoil the party understands, is “sinful” precisely because it violates an Agent’s domain (Venus’s). Unresolved.
