The Dark Lords are fallen angels who rebelled against the Solemn Pantheon and were cast out of the Sanctuary in the Sky.

The Rebellion

Shortly after the Solemn created Astrodia and before he departed, a group of higher angels — just below the Agents in the order of divinity — rose up against the Pantheon. A war followed, and the rebels were cast down and fell to earth. Since then, even in the age of the higher beings before the Severance, they have sown discord among the mortal races.

The Morning Star

The first and greatest of the Dark Lords, who led the rebellion, is known as the Morning Star. Some claim to have seen his physical presence walking the world. Beneath him is a whole host of nefarious beings — not quite demons or devils, but malevolent entities that spread discord. The faithful pray to keep their influence out.

Session 12 — The Temple of Venus (September 23, 2026)

The Scriptures

The entry-hall scriptures at the Temple of Venus in Pentamarone set out the hierarchy: the Solemn created the world and the Agents to govern it, then receded; below the Agents were the angels. Some of those angels — the Dark Lords — rebelled and fell, the first of them the Morning Star. What caused the rebellion is disputed; scholars of scripture argue about it.

Ill Will Toward Venus

The temple’s priest said the Dark Lords hold ill will toward Venus, the Morning Star most of all — Venus was one of the hands they felt had overreached — though he knows of no personal feud. Since the fall, the Dark Lords have tried to reclaim enough power to ascend again.

The Mural and the Meteor

The temple’s basement holds its prize artwork: the Solemn and his host against the Morning Star and his armies, at the moment the rebels were cast down to earth. Asha judged it a couple of centuries old, unsigned, and brought from the South — from cultures that revere the higher beings — rather than painted locally.

Drolta sensed that something in it didn’t belong, and Red found it: a small flaming meteor falling in the middle of the scene, a deliberate addition. Asked about it, Nephthys said only that the battle “was even before my time.”

She Who Fell Before the First Fall

The priest explained that a fringe sect within the church believes the meteor represents the cause of the Morning Star’s rebellion: a being — in the version Aren had heard, an angel, a woman — was exiled from the Sanctuary in the Sky for something that angered the gods, and her exile spurred the Morning Star to rebel. The Morning Star’s was the first fall; hers came before it. She is known only by the pseudonym She Who Fell Before the First Fall. The priest does not personally believe it. (This is one sect’s answer to the disputed cause of the rebellion, not established doctrine.)

Note — an uneasy echo: the party has named itself The Fallen. Whether that resonance with the fallen angels is coincidence or foreshadowing is unresolved.
