Haine is a master WitchCrafter of Pentamarone and, on the evidence of Session 11, the person who keeps Madame Verre’s calendar and tells her when she has gone too far. She wears a wide hat, works out of the office directly above the guild’s entry hall, and was the only member of the guild who greeted the party’s arrival with alarm rather than curiosity.
Session 11 — The Voice of Reason (September 9, 2026)
She came out of her office mid-scene, saw six armed strangers and her boss floating on a glass throne in the foyer, and scolded Verre in front of all of them.
“Madame, what is the meaning of this? You’re supposed to be in a meeting right now.”
“Oh, calm down. I just have some interesting guests that I want to get to know better.”
Verre sent her to gather all of the other master WitchCrafters instead — which is how the party met the rest of the guild.
Assigned to the generated-materials team with Pittore: determine what the objects conjured by the Golden Chalice are actually constructed of, and whether they fully replicate whatever they copied. Leif worked with them, on the grounds that he conjured the duplicate chalice himself.
The Whisper
She did not go to the tavern with the others. She stayed behind with Verre, and the party caught most of what she said:
“Are you sure this is a good idea? You don’t really know these people, or this chalice — signing contracts with basically strangers.”
“I have a good feeling about this group. And this chalice. It’s the best lead we’ve got.”
Haine folded and left it. What Verre is chasing, and what the chalice is a lead toward, remain the guild’s biggest open question — and Haine is the one person in Pentamarone who plainly already knows.
Session 12 (September 23, 2026)
- The most senior WitchCrafter, having worked directly under Madame Verre for about a decade.
- Her team’s findings went into the guild’s report on the Golden Chalice: object copies are perfect physical duplicates, down to the imperfections, with no magic — Leif’s duplicate chalice is only gold, and would pass physical inspection. A copy can be enchanted afterward.
- Whatever Verre is chasing, the chalice is no longer part of it: Verre returned it unused. Haine’s knowledge of the goal remains the guild’s best-kept secret.
